These words are the embodiment of this church’s mission call to reaffirm our faith in God, our desire to learn and grow, and inspiration to find new outlets for our personal journey of faith. The elegant crown logo is simple. There are a number of compelling elements within the design of the stylized crown that symbolizes the King of Kings. Four people express their celebration of the Lord by lifting their joined hands toward heaven. They are a community – of faith, of joy, of celebrating God’s glory. Their joined hands suggest cooperation, unity of purpose and even a sense of family. They stand on a soft arc, representing the halo associated with the promise of everlasting life for all believers. The white shapes between the four people create simple arches – windows to our future and a tribute to the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This icon embraces our aspirations of calling our parishioners and friends to develop their personal faith in Jesus Christ while prayerfully seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance as we grow in our spiritual life and in service to others. The
colors gold and purple also have meaning. Gold reminds us of a precious
gift given by one of the Magi at the glorious time of our Savior’s
birth. The color purple suggests regal bearing – the color of Kings
and Christians as “a royal priesthood!” Together, these colors
reinforce a monumental mission that “This is our Lord’s church,
and we are privileged to be a part of this which is the greatest enterprise
in the world. We represent the good news of Jesus’ love for all.” |

Early in 1969, four acres were secured on Southern Avenue in Tempe. A call was extended to Roger, Barbara and David Gordon (soon joined by Susan) and the first worship service was held at Tempe Mortuary on Southern Avenue in October of 1969. The fledging congregation met for the first time in their new church sanctuary at our current site on February 14 1970. The 274 founding members named the church King of Glory. King
of Glory now flourishes as a congregation of more than 3,800 members
and 2000 friends. King of Glory grew both fiscally and in accordance
with a physical and programmatic Master Plan crafted in 1970. With the
addition of numerous additional buildings and a glorious pipe organ,
we have created a beautiful church campus. We remain dedicated to creative
worship, strong youth ministry, active fellowship life, adult education,
outreach, and missions. |

| Communion We practice open communion at KOG. This means that if you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you are welcome to commune with us. We believe it is our Lord's invitation to which all of us respond, our Lords's table around which we gather, our Lord's gifts we receive. Communion is served every Sunday at the 8 a.m. service. It is served the first and third Sundays at all services. Back to Top |
