How You Can Help

Each month on the 2nd SUNDAYKOG’s 20 volunteers prep and serve the evening meal, and clean up before leaving. We can have up to four (4) youth, ages 12-17,  on our crew.   On a typical Sunday, we help feed ~150 individuals who are food-insecure.

Sign up on Narthex “rolling” board by the week before a service date; providing your email is encouraged so that  month’s coordinator can send you all the guidelines in advance.

We participate in the I-Help program through the City of Tempe’s Community Action Agency, opening our church to 40 homeless for sleeping one night a week.  Days for Girls makes personal hygiene products for women in Africa.  Stitch a Smile makes quilts and turbans, etc. for homeless and cancer patients.

Days for Girls International

In the United States we have so many modern conveniences that we take them for granted. In many parts of the world, young girls are not able to regularly attend school and have a brighter future due to lack of those conveniences. Days for Girls International’s mission is to address the root cause.  Volunteers learn to sew reusable hygiene kits for girls in South Africa for girls to stay in school.

Fabric, supplies, and instructions are provided at these workshops.  Please bring sewing machine, serger, and/or good scissors, if available.  Non-sewing volunteers are needed, too!  Please come and help!

The Stitch A Smile Ministry

The Stitch A Smile Ministry meets the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday each month to work on various projects which include quilts, lap robes, walker bags, turbans, baby sets, etc. Some of the groups who benefit from the items made by these loving hands include Arizona Blankets 4 Kids, local police and firefighters, veterans’ homes, nursing homes, hospital nurseries, and cancer patients receiving chemo therapy treatments. You can participate by: donating fabric, sewing with the KOG group, sewing projects at home. Even if you do not sew, you can still help with cutting fabric and other tasks.
